The Jane Gallery is pleased to present Gifts Wrapped in Razor Wire, an exhibition centered on bringing greater visibility to the lives and experiences of incarcerated women.
Curated by Carolyn Harper, the exhibition draws particular attention to the experiences of incarcerated women and the challenges of transitioning while incarcerated. At its center is the relationship between Harper and featured artist Shane Daly, which began in early 2021 when Harper started corresponding with incarcerated individuals through Sista2Sista, an organization dedicated to connecting imprisoned women with volunteers who provide correspondence, connection, and support.
Through their correspondence, Harper and Daly developed a relationship that became the foundation for Gifts Wrapped in Razor Wire. The exhibition brings Daly’s work and lived experience to the forefront while encouraging a broader conversation around incarceration, identity, visibility, and human connection.
The exhibition opens today, September 4, 2026, with an opening reception from 5:30–9:00 PM and will remain on view through September 26, 2026.
